The Empire Grows
| Here
we go again, expanding the empire in which we live. We soon will
have permanent military bases in Iraq. We will be immune from
prosecution under Iraqi law and U.S. corporations will be all over the
country. I don't think that any American is going to think it's alright to have a foreign government's military base in our country, let alone have their soldiers be free from prosecution in our courts. I know it's easy sometimes to sit back and watch these things happen on the news. We don't have to look any deeper into the story or try and ask ourselves how we would feel in that same situation. But when we ignore what our government does in our name we lose our understanding of the world and the global consequences that come with those actions. This severely limits our understanding of the world and how we are looked upon in a global context. If we don't start getting involved with our country's foreign policy now, we may soon run out of time. Things are not looking up. If we continue to try and police the world with our iron fists we are going to find ourselves alone and befuddled. On top of trying to expand the empire we are also publicly acknowledging that we condone torture. This is not the image we should want to portray to the rest of the world. "If you don't do what we say we will invade your country, torture your people, and then lock them up indefinitely in solitary confinement." If this was some other country they would be on our "Axis of Evil" list. Sometimes we need to take a long hard look in the mirror. The monster may be scary looking back at us but we can't change what we don't acknowledge. We need to make some big changes! Love and Peace, RJ |
